If you wanted a good silent comedy with a side of romance in the 1930s, Charlie Chaplain was the man to look for. The movie tells a story about a blind girl, who regains her sight thanks to a misfit named “The Tramp” (Chaplain). The two of them fall in love and the rest of the movie is filled with all of the slapstick humor Chaplain was made famous for.
City Lights is perhaps the best known of all of Charlie Chaplin’s movies. It is about his Little Tramp, who befriends a drunken millionaire. So long as the millionaire is drunk, he loves the Little Tramp, but he forgets all about him once he becomes sober. This leads to the Tramp going to prison for apparently stealing money that was actually given to him by the drunken millionaire. The Little Tramp doesn’t want the money for himself, though, but for the woman that he loves.
One that comes into my mind is a classic romance movie called “City Lights”. Directed by the famous Charlie Chaplin, and in the year of 1931, it’s considered to be one of the greatest romantic movies of all time. This is one of the most beloved and most adored of all the Chaplin movies. It is the story of a poor tramp, played by Charlie Chaplin and a beautiful flower girl, played by Virginia Cherrill, who is blind and makes her living selling flowers on the street. The movie is an example of selfless and innocent love where the poor tramp goes through a series of hurdles, and circumstance so that he can bring her sight back.
City Lights is considered his own child. He wrote the screenplay and set the music and also directed, produced and edited this classic movie. Made in 1931, City Lights was made as a film with no speech. The movie is about the ups-and-downs of the Little Tramp, in love with a girl who thinks him to be someone else.
